Olivia Wentzell

Human Factors Engineer, Product Design

Hello! My name is Olivia Wentzell. I graduated from Tufts University majoring in Engineering Psychology/ Human Factors Engineering and currently working for Kinoo.com. Raised in a small mountain town in Idaho, I am passionate for adventure, creative, hard working, and a problem solver. These skills are the core of who I am. At Kinoo I have continued to explore and adventure through all the possibilities of user-centered design, accessibility technology, and product development.

02 Experience

Summer 2018

Aira Technology

Product and Engagement Intern at Aira.io, an accessibility technology company focusing on providing instant and life changing visual information for the blind and low vision.

I identified and implemented user research goals and projects that were of interest for future product features and functions. I led brainstorming sessions, conducted and analyzed outreach efforts to prepare questionnaires for users and define reports to present qualitative results from user research.

Diving in to the product and UX teams, I learned how to succeed in an ambiguous, fast paced environment with minimal oversight or direction. I worked with many different stakeholders and across departments to identify and prioritize projects and drive them forward. Presenting my work to C-level, resulted in the definition of future projects and an invitation to work part time remotely during the school year.

Summer 2019

Ladyhawke Commercial Fishing Deckhand

I spent the summer as a deckhand aboard one of the top producing gillnet (and the only all female) boats in Southeast Alaska Salmon fishery.

I was responsible for all deck operations, assisting in setting and hauling in the net using a hydraulic drum, picking fish, assisting in routine mechanical maintenance, and cooking and cleaning for my Captain and me on our 35 foot boat.

We offloaded thousands of pounds of salmon daily in open water to the tender. Along with navigating waterways and operating the boat, communicating with other boats and coding partners was essential for a successful day.

A zero failure and highly physical job, I worked 20 hour days for 8 weeks running. The work doesn’t end until the fish are gone! In a sense, every boat is a startup, you live and die by how hard and how smart you work.

Rather than a summer internship, I had an amazing adventure that opened up a new world to me and an experience I will have with me for the rest of my life.

July 2016, 2017, 2018

Member of the Presentations Team for highly exclusive business  conference.

Allen & Company Summer Conference is a highly exclusive and demanding job, i.e. failure was not an option. Working with the conference attendees, some of the most powerful and wealthy people in the world, I learned about discretion, hard work, reliability, and what it takes to succeed in a high stakes/high pressure environment.

I was responsible for managing communications for Q&A sessions for speakers including: Sheryl Sandberg, Phil Knight, Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Tom Brokaw, just to name a few. Under direction of Herbert Allen Sr. and Herbert Allen Jr. I was responsible for presentations running smoothly.
